Irish CND Chairperson speaks at Scottish Parliament

Irish CND Chairperson, Dr David Hutchinson Edgar, was one of the speakers at a symposium at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to mark UN International Peace Day on 21st September.

The event was hosted by Bill Kidd, MSP, Chief Whip of the Scottish devolved government, and also heard contributions from Kerstin Grebäck (Women's International League for Peace and Freedom), Dr Rebecca Johnson (Vice-Chair of ICAN), Janet Fenton (Scottish CND) and Angie Zelter (Trident Ploughshares). As well as MSPs, it was attended by peace campaigners and representatives of Scottish churches and trade unions.

At a debate in the parliament prior to the meeting, MSPs from both the governing Scottish National Party and the opposition Labour party joined to call for a nuclear-weapons-free Scotland and the abolition of the UK's nuclear arsenal.
